How to choose a travel insurance policy to make you smile
Choosing the right company for your travel insurance can feel like a tough decision. But it doesn’t have to be.
Picking the right policy will mean that you can smile, knowing you’re covered properly.
To pick the best level of cover, you should think about the following:
Do you have pre-existing medical conditions?
If you’re living with pre-existing medical conditions then it’s really important that you declare them on your holiday insurance.
Not all companies will cover medical conditions or ask you about them. But all that really means is that when you’re feeling your most vulnerable and need help, it may not be valid and won’t be paid.
We don’t think that’s fair and that’s why we consider all medical conditions. So as specialists in travel insurance for people with pre-existing medical conditions we’ll ask you to declare and cover all of your conditions where possible through our simple medical screen that can be answered online or over the phone.
How often do you go on holiday?
Sometimes you’ll plan a big blowout holiday – where a Single Trip policy could be best.
If you travel more often and looking for cover all year round, then you should look at our Annual Multi-Trip policy.
Are you going on a cruise?
If your holiday plans involve a cruise, then you’ll need to make sure you’re covered for things like missed ports and cabin confinement. This type of cover isn’t typically found in normal travel insurance, so it’s best to look for specialist cruise insurance.
How long are you going for?
Most holidays are generally between one and two weeks long and can be covered by most policies with ease.
But sometimes you’ll be looking for a longer stay. To see the world, to take a long backpacking holiday or to spend time with family abroad. Not all insurers will offer a long cover option, so it’s worth checking the limits on your cover.
Our single trip option can cover you for just over 3 months and can be increased to up to 18 months depending on your age and where you’re going.
Take a look at our long stay policy if you’re looking to cover a long break.
What are the age limits on travelling?
Enjoying a good holiday shouldn’t be limited to how old you are. But some insurance companies won’t cover you when you’re over a certain age.
With us, we have no upper age limit on single trip policies and an upper age limit of 85 on our annual policies.
Will my holiday activities be covered?
When you’re going on holiday, it’s quite likely that you or your family have something fun planned.
What do I want to be covered for?
Each insurer is different, but we like to make sure you’re covered where you need it most. Here we’ve matched up the questions you could ask yourself to help find the right level of cover for you:
- How much did your holiday cost per person? Match this price up with the cancellation cover offered. We can cover up to £7,500 per person with our Deluxe policy.
- What personal items are you taking and how much would they cost to replace? Some companies may not offer personal item cover as standard, whereas we cover from £1,000 with our Essential cover up to £3,000 with our Deluxe cover.
- What medical expenses are paid? Accidents can happen at any time so it’s best to make sure you’re covered as medical bills can be really expensive abroad. We offer unlimited medical expenses on our Deluxe policy. That’s a huge amount of peace of mind for your holiday.
- How much excess would I pay if I need to claim? The excess you pay is worked out per category. So if you need to claim for having to cut your holiday short and medical expenses, then both excesses would be charged. Our excess ranges from £150 to not having to pay a penny.
