When can we insure you for leukemia?
If you’re living with leukemia, or are in remission then we may be able to offer you our full cover if the following statements are true for you:
✔ Your doctor has declared you fit to travel (or would if you asked them)
✔ Your cancer is not terminal
✔ You are not awaiting surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy
If you are awaiting surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, then we may still be able to offer you some cover, but would not be able to cover leukemia.
That means you wouldn’t be covered for things like having to cancel your trip due to your condition.
How our holiday insurance protects you
We offer three levels of cover, but our Deluxe cover is the most comprehensive option.
As well as being rated as 5 stars by Defaqto, it offers these benefits and more to people with cancer:
✔ Up to unlimited medical expenses
✔ Cancellation cover up to £7,500
✔ 24 hour medical emergency helpline
✔ Baggage covered up to £3,000
✔ No excess payment
You may expect that as an insurance company, we may just cover the cost of something going wrong. But if you have a medical emergency while on holiday, what’s more important is that we’re here to help.
We’ll help you to find the best, nearest medical facility when you need to. We can also help with translation between you and your medical team to make sure everybody is speaking the same language. We’re here, with our medical emergency helpline 24 hours a day. You can even reverse the charges when you phone the emergency helpline so you won’t be charged.
If needed, we’ll help you to get back home safely, including sending out a friendly trained medical professional to fly back with you. That includes paying for any extra flights and transport you need.
When it comes to settling the bill, having to pay for a medical emergency abroad can be daunting. Even if you know you can claim it back.
So where your medical bill comes to over £350 and you have a valid claim, we’ll look to settle the bill directly with the medical provider where possible. That means that you won’t be out of pocket and can concentrate on getting better.
Here’s a summary of our three levels of cover to help you choose the right option for your needs:
cutting your holiday short
|Medical expenses & repatriation||£5m||£10m||Unlimited|
|Travel delay||–||£30 for the first full 12 hours
£15 for all other full 12 hours
up to £300

Should my family be on the same policy if we’re travelling together?
As well as sometimes being cheaper to buy policies together as a family, there are some lesser known but important perks of buying together.
The biggest perk of buying together is knowing that you should all be covered for having to cancel if any of you have a medical emergency.
If you’d bought seperate policies, then any other traveller is unlikely to be covered for having to cancel due to your medical emergency.
So covering together with the same policy gives you added protection to claim back the full cost of your holiday instead of a portion of it.
What questions will we ask about your leukemia?
We’ll ask you a few multiple choice questions to help understand more about your leukemia to work out the right level of cover. We’ll always respect your confidentiality and use the information to help cover you properly.
Here’s a few questions we commonly ask:
- What type of cancer do you (or did you) have?
- Has there ever been a spread to other parts of the body?
- How long ago was the last treatment for your cancer?
- Do you have any further treatment planned for this condition?
- Are you taking strong painkillers everyday for this condition?
