France bans short-haul flights to cut carbon emissions
France has started banning domestic short-haul flights, in a bid to reduce their carbon emissions. Instead, passengers will be encouraged to travel by train.
Studies show that flying produces 77 times more carbon emissions than travel by train.
The short-haul ban applies to journeys that take less than two and a half hours by train. It currently affects journeys between Paris and cities Nantes, Lyon and Bordeaux.
The best times to book hotel rooms to ‘knock one third off’ room rates

According to them, 4pm onwards is the best time to get a deal on your trip away. Prices tend to fall even further after 8pm, as hotels look to avoid losing money on empty rooms.
Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert, recommends cancelling and rebooking your hotel rooms if you spot a lower price too (but only if there’s cancellation fee). Apparently, it can help to save hundreds!
