If you’re looking for somewhere special to visit that will leave you completely satisfied, Tokyo is the place to book tickets for. At least, this is according to a TripAdvisor poll, which found the metropolis was the best place in the world for overall satisfaction.

According to the survey, which harvested ratings submitted by tens of thousands of travellers, Tokyo scored particularly highly in terms of cleanliness and local friendliness, beating every other city. Transportation was also a high point, with the taxi services garnishing particular praise.

It was also in the top ten for shopping, restaurants and suitability for families, with the strength of entertainment districts such as Shibuya and Shinjuku shining through, as well as Disneyworld and SeaDisney which are perfect for the kids.

However, participants in the survey rated the cultural attractions much lower in comparison to the other 37 cities that were included, suggesting that accessibility and information regarding these should be improved.

Places such as the Meiji Shrine, the Imperial Palace and Tokyo’s collection of stunning temples could be in danger of being overlooked by visitors if measures aren’t taken, TripAdvisor claimed.

Tokyo is currently undergoing a wealth of preparations for the 2020 Olympics, which it will be hosting, making this a very exciting time to visit the metropolis.

The Japanese capital was up against some tough competition, and did well to knock New York City and Barcelona into second and third place respectively. Other highly-rated cities included in the survey were Istanbul, Prague, Vienna, Berlin, Rome, Paris and Dubrovnik.

However, no matter which of these you choose for your city break or holiday, be sure to book adequate travel insurance for the duration of the trip.
