Summer airport strikes update
If you’re worried about strikes impacting your upcoming holiday, here’s what you need to know! Find out how travel is likely to be affected over the next couple of weeks.
London Heathrow and Birmingham Airport – If you’re departing from Heathrow or Birmingham any time soon, you’ll be relieved to know that strikes over the summer holidays have now been called off.
Rail – Industry strikes will affect 14 different rail operators throughout the UK, and are scheduled to take place on 20, 22 and 29 July 2023. Not all services will be cancelled during the strike, so check the National Rail website before travelling. Some train staff will also refuse to work overtime from July 31 to August 5 in a dispute over pay, which could cause rail disruption due to staff shortages.
London Underground – Thousands of London Underground workers were due to strike in July over pay, but have now called off the strike action. Check the TfL website before travelling for the latest travel updates.
International – Industrial action isn’t just limited to the UK. If you’re travelling to or from Spain, Portugal, France or Italy, various airline staff strikes are planned throughout the summer.
