World Travel Awards for Greek debut
This August will see Athens, Europe’s oldest city, play host to the red carpet event that is the World Travel Awards, which recognises all that is great and good in the industry.
The announcement, which was made earlier this week, was received with elation by the Greek Tourism Ministry, the Greek National Tourism Organisation and the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises, which will run the ceremony in partnership.
Guests at the prestigious event will have the opportunity to partake in a full itinerary over the weekend, travelling back in time and gaining an insight into Greek history and its vibrant contemporary culture.
“We are delighted to host our first ceremony in Greece, a decision that reflects the crucial contribution that tourism makes to the national economy,” commented Graham Cooke, president of the World Travel Awards.
“The Greek tourism sector is enjoying a renaissance, with last year’s double-digit growth predicted to continue in 2014 as it continues to grow market share,” he said, before adding that Athens’ beautiful balancing act between preserving the past and maintaining its modern culture had contributed to the final decision.
As well as participating in the historic and cultural itinerary, attendees will also be invited to attend a gala dinner with top local entertainment, as well as a number of presentations talking about what the industry has achieved over the past year and where it may be going in the future. There will also be a cocktail reception.
It all takes place the weekend of August 2nd with Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso hosting the ceremony. Those hoping to attend should note it is a black tie event.
After Greece, the World Travel Awards will head to Dubai, Ecuador and Anguilla in search of the finest travel brands before hosting the Grand Final, taking place in December 2014.
