TripAdvisor chooses top beaches
British summers are famous for unpredictable weather patterns, with the saying “pack for an English summer” meaning “pack anything from flip flops to snow goggles”. So it may be all too tempting to head off to a sunny destination where you can enjoy some well-earned time on a beach – particularly after a miserable winter.
If you’re looking at making that choice, TripAdvisor wants to help you out. The organisation has selected its Top Ten Beaches in the World, using reviews and ratings gathered over a 12-month period.
First on the list is Baia do Sancho in Fernando de Noronha, Brazil, which has a particularly outstanding reputation. A gorgeous stretch of sand that seems to have come straight out of a fairytale, it is encroached by emerald forest from behind and there are plenty of rock formations to explore.
Rabbit Beach in Italy also scooped a mention, named fourth best in the world – and first in Europe – with its transparent ocean and characteristic coastline. It’s certainly a blissful place to be, although it can certainly get busy at times.
The instantly recognisable white swirls of Whitehaven Beach in Australia came in fifth, followed by Playa de ses Illetes, in Formentera, Spain, in sixth place.
Perhaps surprisingly, a UK beach even featured on the list, with Rhossili Bay in Swansea, Wales, just getting in. Ranked ninth on the list, it possesses an almost ethereal beauty, backed by rusty red cliffs and vibrant grassland. It’s a world away from the other beaches on the list, but undeniably has character.
No matter which stretch of sand you opt to relax on this year, you can attain that peace of mind you require to truly wind down by booking travel insurance before you fly.
