Ryanair announces flights from UK to Girona
Ryanair has announced its intention to run a service from Leeds Bradford Airport to Girona Barcelona, with flights serving the Costa Brava region in Spain to start from April 1st.
The new route will allow tourists to access the many popular coastal holiday resorts that line the edge of the country, while those who wish to visit the Catalan capital of Barcelona can do so easily as the city is under an hour away by train or car.
Flights are so far scheduled to depart from LBA on Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays, and they will operate throughout the summer season only until October 25th.
Those eager to shun the holiday resorts will be pleased to learn that Girona itself is a fascinating city with an intriguing history and unique role in Catalonia.
Its picturesque views and colourful painted houses overlooking the river Onyar have charmed many thousands of tourists in the past.
Yorkshire Rugby League supporters will also be able to make use of the route if they want to watch their team face off against the Catalan Dragons in Perpignan later this year.
Vice versa, Catalan visitors with an interest in the UK may well be looking forward to visiting the historic town of York and the vibrant city of Leeds, both of which boast many attractions that may well prove fascinating draws.
Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford’s aviation development and marketing director, commented: “We welcome the introduction of Ryanair’s ninth destination in Spain and expect that it will be a popular route for our Yorkshire holidaymakers.
“We also look forward to welcoming Spanish visitors to Leeds over the summer period, alongside visiting the nearby city of York,” he added.
The addition of Girona Barcelona airport to its portfolio brings the number of destinations served by Ryanair within Spain up to 23.
