Greece welcomes World Travel Awards
Athens rolled out the red carpet yesterday (May 21st) for the World Travel Awards, which arrived in the city with a spectacular itinerary for guests and plenty of prizes to hand out.
The ceremonies and programme lasting three days have yet to get properly underway, with the opening night not taking place until August 1st. However, the sense of excitement throughout the city is palpable.
Established in conjunction with hosting hotels Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso, this incarnation of the awards will offer participants an opportunity to enjoy a private visit to the New Acropolis Museum, recently voted one of the best venues in the world.
The jaw-dropping itinerary also includes a full tour around the Greek capital, a mouthwatering selection of local foodstuffs and a day on the beach, something no trip to this fantastic country should be without.
It’s all been put together in association with the Greek National Tourism Organization and the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises, who are determined to get started early when it comes to impressing visitors.
“The selection of our hosts is fundamental to the success of our awards programme, and Athens possesses all the ingredients to rise to the challenge of hosting our Europe Ceremony 2014,” commented Graham E Cook, president and founder of the World Travel Awards.
Niki Fotiou, marketing & PR manager, Divani Collection Hotels, added: “Our goal is to organise truly memorable moments for everyone to share. We want to offer to our guests a real taste of Greece and all that Athens has to offer.”
If you’re one of the lucky bunch flying to Athens to experience this amazing event, don’t forget to sort out your travel insurance beforehand.
