Is Europe massively underrated?

Europe is a hub of brilliant culture and diversity. With air travel cheaper than ever, an increasingly large number of British tourists are able to pack their bags and travel further afield, to destinations overseas such as South America, New Zealand, Thailand and Australia. But with a selection of holiday destinations, city breaks and action trips literally on our doorstep why are we looking past the never-ending sea of travel opportunity in Europe?

Here are our top 5 places to visit in Europe…

Barcelona, Spain
Can’t decide between a beach holiday in the sun and long weekend city break? Barcelona is the place for you. Situated on the coast line of the Catalonia region, Barcelona boasts a 4.5km stretch of beach within walking distance from main tourist attractions. It is recommended that you spend longer than a weekend in this Spanish city of fun, heritage and vibrant street life to experience its culture to the full.

Split, Croatia
Croatia’s second largest city Split has a brilliant atmosphere with a well balanced mixture of tradition and modern development. Boasting some of the most beautiful beaches in the country and with Split’s mountains dotted along its coastline, the destination has the perfect cityscape which you can admire when making a ferry journey to or from the city.

Venice, Italy
Perhaps one of the more predictable destinations to visit in Europe, but certainly one that will not disappoint. Venice is oozing character and elegance with its numerous waterways; exploring the back streets is just as charming as the Grand Canal. A trip to Saint Mark’s Basilica or Piazza San Marco art galleries are highly recommended.

Budapest, Hungary
Budapest is known as the city of spas due to over 15 million gallons of water bubbling daily into the cities spring and boreholes, meaning a trip to the sparkling Gellert Baths is a must  for all. A casual walk through the city will allow you to absorb the beautiful and historic architecture leaving you in awe.

Berlin, Germany
One of Europe’s more historic cities the German capital becomes a whole other city in its winter months with a lively outdoor scene and its world famous Christmas markets. Annual film festival Berlinale is a must visit with the opportunity to see all kinds of movies.

Whichever destination you choose for your next holiday or just a weekend break away don’t forget to organise your European travel insurance before you go and enjoy the great cities that Europe has to offer.
