America, the land of opportunity! For a great family holiday, there’s so much to see stateside, but here’s some of the best places to explore.
When you pour through the pages of a travel brochure, America is certainly a destination that catches the eye – glossy photos of sandy beaches, theme parks, and exciting landmarks designed to excite all the family. From these brochures alone it’s easy to see why America remains such a popular family friendly destination, but with so much choice how do you narrow it down? Hopefully these suggestions will help.
If your children are Disney fans, then a vacation here will be one they’ll never forget. Walt Disney World Resort encompasses Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach Water Parks, along with two crazy golf courses, and Disney Springs shopping and entertainment district. There’s also themed hotels in several different price brackets, including the Art of Animation and the Polynesian Village Resort.
Orlando also offers Sea World, Discovery Cove (where you can swim with Dolphins), Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure (which features the Wizarding World Of Harry Potter), the new Orlando Eye and iDrive 360 complex, and an assortment of other attractions. If you’re looking for something different, why not try the Crayola Experience, Orlando Science Center, or if you have older children why not challenge yourself with the Escape Room.
Florida has it’s fair share of natural beauty away from the theme parks, but if the Everglades, or one of their state parks isn’t on your hit list, how about one of these family friendly locations.
Watkins Glen State Park
Watkins Glen State Park covers 1,000 beautiful acres of hiking trails and waterfalls in New York State, including the Gorge Trail which runs under and over the falls, and has a challenging 800 steps to climb.
Touted as one of the most popular family attractions in the Pacific Northwest, Thors Well is a salt water fountain, surrounded by water on three sides. It can appear quite dramatic in the hour before and after high tide. The fountain forms part of Cape Perpetua, which has a great visitor centre, including a children’s section, with whale watching excursions also available.
Skagit Valley, Washington
Get your cameras ready for a great photo opportunity as the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival arrives in a north west corner of Washington. An ideal place to celebrate Spring with the family as literally millions of tulips come into bloom.

A great place for all ages, especially if you like chocolate. Old-time amusements will amuse you for hours, and of course there’s a chocolate making tour available so you can find out more about the Hershey Empire, and sample some sweet treats.
South Padre Island, Texas
If you can’t stay away from the water for long, then this will be a great choice for the family. Relax on the beach, go dolphin watching, swim or snorkel, the choice is yours. There’s even surfing available at the man-made Schlitterbahn Water Park.
Introduce your children to the home of country music, and its links with the legendary Elvis Presley, awake their interest in the world of science at the Adventure Science Center, or take them to see the animals at Nashville Zoo.
