Bad weather at home…it’s SNOW joke
Avanti Travel Insurance of Braintree Essex announced today a 26% increase in customers booking travel insurance to escape to sunnier shores for the Easter break 2013. With the recent bank holiday one of the coldest on record, the most popular destinations for last-minute trips were Turkey, Dubai, Sharm-El-Sheikh, the Canary Islands and Morocco. Avanti’s UK call centre offices were so busy with calls for last-minute trips that they stayed open over the entire Easter weekend.
Avanti Insurance Ltd Communications Manager Sarah Brockwell commented “The message is clear, people are FED up with the snow and cold weather here so they got away to the sun. Avanti Travel Insurance caters for the over 50s with pre-existing medical conditions – the so-called baby boomer generation – and these people have the financial resources, and the time, to travel at the last minute. Our UK call centre staff are hearing the same story, i.e. that people are booking last-minute deals to get some sun on their bones and personally I don’t blame them”.
Stansted Airport in Essex saw over 220,000 passengers pass through the terminal across the Easter bank holiday weekend while overseas visitors arrived to see the sights in a shivering UK.
Hundreds of thousands more air travellers will also take to the skies this summer as new routes launch from Stansted and many seasonal destinations return as the new summer flying schedule comes into operation.
