Always Check Your Travel Documents To Avoid Disappointment

travel documentsWhy Travel Preparation is Key To A Great Holiday

Getting your travel documents in order before you travel is essential if you want to arrive without any issues.

There’s always so much to remember when you’re preparing for a holiday. From what to pack (and then worrying about your baggage allowance!), to making sure that you’ve got your tickets and passport ready to go, it can be pretty stressful. Rather than leaving it all until the last minute and inevitably forgetting something though, it’s important to take the time to prepare properly. This is especially true in the case of your travel documents.

Passports & Visas

Holidays involve lots of organising and double-checking, there’s no point pretending otherwise. Depending on where you travel to in the world, you may need to arrange a tourist visa. If you don’t do this and your destination is somewhere that requires it – well, good luck getting past passport control! It goes without saying that you need to remember to bring your passport along too.

Taking the time to sort out your visa and passport (don’t assume that it’s not going to expire soon!) will ensure that your journey gets off to a good start. Oh, and don’t forget to check you’ve got them with you before you set off for the airport!

Additional Documents

There are some countries that require additional documents for you to be able to travel. One of these is South Africa, which states that younger travellers must have the long version of their birth certificate in order to enter the country. This is to protect against child trafficking.

Unfortunately, travellers have turned up to the airport unprepared, and have not been allowed to fly. In the case of the Brookes family, ten year old Joshua and his mother had to miss a large part of their trip because they didn’t have his full birth certificate with them at check-in. So always check what documentation you need before you travel. Otherwise, you could end up both missing out on your trip and being seriously out of pocket.

Travel Insurance Documents

Something else you should always take care with is your travel insurance documentation. It’s essential that you fully understand the cover provided, so that you’re sure you’re taking out the right policy for you. This is why we always advise people to speak to us before buying an insurance policy.

Once you’ve taken out the insurance, it’s always important to read your policy document carefully, so that you’re really familiar with what you’re protected against before you travel. It’s vital that you take your policy documents on holiday with you as well.

Why? Well they’ll contain important information like the number to call in an emergency; and like we said before, they’ll fully detail what you’re covered for. This is handy if you’re planning to take part in an activity and you’re not sure if you’ll be protected if something goes wrong. After all, you don’t want to leave that to chance!

Get Everything In Order

As you can see, it’s so important to be fully prepared when it comes to your travel documents. Not having the right ones with you can either see you running into problems during your trip or not being able to travel at all.

So by taking the time to get yourself organised, you can look forward to a journey and trip that won’t spring any unpleasant surprises on you. Oh, and don’t forget your tickets before you travel either – otherwise all that effort really will have gone to waste!
